How to Check DNS Settings
Windows XP
1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Network Connections.
2. Right-click the network connection that you want to configure, and then click Properties.
3. On the General tab click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.
4. Select the General tab.
5. If you do not have a static IP address, Obtain an IP address automatically will be selected. The DNS setting should be set to Obtain DNS server address automatically.
6. If you have a static IP address, the DNS setting should be set to Use the following DNS server addresses. The preferred DNS server and alternate DNS server IP addresses should be entered in the appropriate fields.
Windows Vista
1. Click on Start, select: Control Panel, Network and Internet and then Network Connections.
2. Double click the Local Network Connection.
3. Double click Internet Protocol 4 (TCP/IPv4).
4. Select the General tab.
5. If you do not have a static IP address, Obtain an IP address automatically will be selected. The DNS setting should be set to Obtain DNS server address automatically.
6. If you have a static IP address, the DNS setting should be set to Use the following DNS server addresses. The preferred DNS server and alternate DNS server IP addresses should be entered in the appropriate fields.
Mac OSX
1. Go to the Apple Menu in the upper left corner of your screen and open System Preferences.
2. When System Preferences windows opens click on the Network icon to access the networking options.
3. Select the Internet connection you are using (indicated by a green dot).
4. If you do not have a static IP address, Configure will be set to Using DHCP or Using PPPoE (DSL only). The DNS servers field should be left blank.
6. If you have a static IP address, Configure will be set to Manually. The preferred DNS server and alternate DNS server IP addresses should be entered in the DNS Servers field.
Linksys Router (WRT54G2)
1. Launch the web browser on
your computer, and enter the router’s default IP address,
192.168.1.1, in the Address field. Then, press Enter.
2. A password request screen will appear. By default, the username is blank and
the password is admin. Click
OK to continue.
3. If you do not have a static IP address, the connection type should be set to Automatic Configuration-DHCP or PPPoE (DSL only). The DNS servers field should be left blank.
4. If you have a static IP address, the connection type should be set to "Static IP ". The preferred DNS server and alternate DNS server IP addresses should be entered in the Static DNS fields (at least 2).
